Burnt out
I'm feeling seriously in need of some rest and relaxation - I'm so mentally and physically tired!
Why on earth do people assume that us stay at home mothers have nothing to do during the day? Why the big assumption that we'll all go to work once our kids are at school? I've been finding that my life is just getting busier and busier by the week. By the time my youngest starts school full-time in December (she's currently doing three days at kindy) I am sure that I'll not ever be bored, not in a million years.
This past week has been particularly busy. It has included:
- A sleepover at our place, with two kids aged 4 and 5.
- A long walk on the beach with Frally and Rach.
- Making a lasagne for a family from school (the mum just got out of hospital)
- A day at the museum with the kids
- A playdate after school at one of Noah's classmates' house (actually, the classmate is a girl and not even Noah's friend, but I'm friends with the mum, hence the playdate)
- An afternoon tea after school at Rach's house, helping her to welcome a new arrival from Aussie into town
- Baking with Eva
- Storytime at the library
- Having two children (aged 3 and 4) over to our place for a few hours to give their pregnant mum a break
- Having Frally and her kids over to lunch
- Having Vixen and her kids over to lunch
- Going op-shopping with Linda and her friend, then bringing them back to my place and whipping up a scrumptious pumpkin soup for lunch
- Going to the vege shop, going to the bakery, going to the supermarket, going across town to the humoungous Borders store so that Noah could spend his birthday gift card (so exciting!)
- Quiz Night at the pub on Monday night (we won, as usual!)
- Doing 4 hours of volunteer work with my local community group (this is going to be a monthly thing - I started this week)
It's now Friday again. Today I had to make a hastily put-together pirate's hat for Noah after we arrived at school to discover that it was dress up day and he'd forgotten about it. His poor face fell until I said I'd nip home and make a hat. (Most basic hat ever, complete with hand drawn skull and crossbones but he LOVED it.)
I also did two hours of my community work today, and went shopping for a birthday present for one of Noah's friends - he's having a party after school today. I then looked up on the internet how to say Happy Birthday in Hungarian, as this boy is Hungarian, and I thought it'd be a nice touch to the card.
I took ownership of the kindy slugs (yes, you read right). We are looking after them for the next two weeks over the school holidays. We must be
very responsible people to have been given such a
huge responsibility (tee hee hee, they obviously haven't seen the state of our poor starving frogs lately - being the middle of winter, live flies are hard to come upon - I might even have to resort to
store-bought flies!).
I booked the kids into swimming lessons for next term (every Monday after school for the whole term - hopefully they'll like it!).
And finally, tonight I have a friend coming over for a wine and a catch-up (haven't seen her for nearly a year) while watching America's Next Top Model.
So yes, I'm tired. (But secretly loving it.)
Of course, no surprise here, the housework has been neglected, as per usual. My house is a tip but my life is
busy busy busy (too busy for paid work or housework).
Yesterday at 5pm I realised that I was feeling faint and physically terrible. It took me a while to realise why - I'd been on my feet all day, racing around the place, but had forgotten to actually eat anything all day. Not good.
I've made up for that today, and intend to enjoy my merlot tonight. As that ad goes, I'm worth it.
